Perplexity's pivot powers founders and small businesses, delivering 5x revenue to $500M with just 34% team growth - showing how a small startup scales impact.
Perplexity started as a small business tool for ourselves. We had 4 people and no revenue with AI at our fingertips. The pivot to Computer is actually a full circle. Founders are using it to grow companies that matter to the economy and their communities. It’s rewarding to see it now powering small businesses and startups in big ways. Perplexity is still a startup. We just 5X’ed revenue from $100M to $500M with only 34% growth in team size. 2x revenue growth in 2026 with same small team. And we’re just warming up. Everyone here works at a small business, and everything we build is for people who build.

Several replies openly question who actually uses or pays for Perplexity — “who uses Perplexity? I know zero ppl” — implying weak adoption and skepticism about the product’s market traction.
Users report dramatic cuts (e.g., “600 deep Research queries a day to 20 a month”, “Advanced search now limited to 20 per month”) and say changes were made with little or no prior notice.
Multiple voices argue Perplexity’s pricing and credits don’t compare well to Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT — “$20 for an AI research tool is a rip off” and expensive credit packs yield far less capacity than rival subscriptions.
Repeated complaints about ignored bug reports and long waits — “no one replies to issues,” “2+ months I have been waiting” — paint support as unresponsive or ineffective.
People report a buggy, degraded product: models removed, features gone, video generation left disabled for paying users, and workflows that “burn all your credits” on simple tasks.
Several replies accuse the company of pivoting from an “AI search engine” ethos to being “money-hungry,” abandoning original mission and community expectations as it scales.
File-upload and access limits, plus rapid credit consumption during research, are said to disproportionately impact independent researchers who relied on Pro for heavy-document workflows.
Longtime subscribers who migrated others to Perplexity say they’re stuck with reduced value — “stuck with perplexity pro for years… feels like pro subs r getting rugpulled.”
Some replies question touted growth/valuation and fairness of feature rollouts — e.g., doubts about multipliers over years and why certain builds or features are limited to select users.

Amazing 👏 Perplexity lot of cool features this year along with the computer
Wow, congrats on 500m 🔥
Serious questions, who uses Perplexity? I want to meet 1 paying customer
h perplexity pro for years, and convinced MANY people to switch over from ChatGPT pro (y’all should lowk give me commission in the form of computer credits 😩). Nonetheless feels like pro subs r getting rugpulled w/ deep research limits + no more api credits w/ pro sub.
Thats why @perplexity_ai is fully with bugs and not ready to use product?
