Key Takeaways

What the community is saying — both sides

Supporting

1

Widespread celebration:

replies brim with congratulations — “wow,” “keep climbing,” “heroic work” and pride that Meta is back in the game.

2

Distribution is the strategic moat:

repeated argument that Meta’s reach — “pre‑installed on billions” and ecosystem control — gives it an unbeatable advantage over rivals.

3

Product‑ready, consumer‑facing AI:

many stress this isn’t just a research demo but a usable app “embedding superintelligence into daily apps and wearables.”

4

Wearables + AI is the real multiplier:

multiple replies single out AI + eyewear (Ray‑Ban, Quest, Meta glasses) as the strongest practical use case for augmentation.

5

Direct competitive threat:

commenters say Meta is “eating into OpenAI’s lunch,” overtaking specific apps (Monopoly Go Chat) and changing market dynamics.

6

Developer eagerness and requests:

excitement around the Glass Display SDK, calls for a public API, hackathons, cloud coding (Muse Spark → Replit) and wider regional availability.

7

Traction and metrics matter:

people point to App Store climbs, #1/#2 rankings and “download velocity crushing OpenAI” as proof of momentum.

8

Mixed technical feedback:

praise for image processing (claimed better than GPT/Claude) alongside bug reports like “extended thinking keeps repeating time & location.”

9

Marketing tweaks suggested:

practical advice to update app store copy and descriptions to highlight the chatbot/utility rather than just “vibes/video.”

Opposing

1

“vanity metrics”

posting top-downloaded app rankings is misleading and they want meaningful signals like active users or engagement instead.

2

distribution beats capability

Meta’s reach and ad buys can inflate rankings, so installs aren’t proof of model quality.

3

device bundling

the app is required for Meta Glasses setup (and limited-region rollouts), which makes the install numbers disingenuous.

4

functionally behind rivals

(Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude) — complaints about hallucinations and people switching back after trying it.

5

they won’t trust Meta with their data

and worry about tracking or hidden services.

6

novelty/honeymoon effect

users download anything labeled “AI” and the bump won’t last.

7

confusion over the rankings

“Why is Netflix’s game controller #1?” and “Why does the top app change every time?” suggest the metric or source is unclear.

8

“Epic stuff”

, “Nice work” and notes to keep building.

Also climbing here in CH, just overtook one of the two BigShoeShop apps today lol However, the copy and description here is still all about vibes/video and barely mentions chatbot at all, we should update that in all countries!

Those are all non-organic installs, i.e Probably paid installs via ads so it’s a no brainer it shoots up the rankings !

Why is there a different top app every time you post? Makes it look suspicious

why is this a useful metric to be posting about regularly .. wouldn’t it be better to just track the active users or something like tokens😒
